Dr. O’Brien graduated from Tufts University Medical School, completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Cincinnati, and completed a General Internal Medicine Fellowship at Brown University. Dr. O’Brien remained at Brown University and Rhode Island Hospital for 12 years, as a clinician, researcher and hospital administrator, attaining the rank of clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Brown. She published research on health care utilization by underserved populations, focusing on improving access to health care. She taught medical students and residents in inpatient and outpatient settings. Dr. O’Brien served in a number of administrative roles at Rhode Island Hospital: Medical Director of Ambulatory Services, Medical Director of Case Management, and Medical director of Revenue Cycle Management.
Since 2005, Dr O’Brien has focused solely on primary care practice. She has taken coursework in lifestyle medicine including extensive nutrition training and exercise prescription, and mind/body medicine including mindfulness and meditation.
Dr. O’Brien is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, regularly takes continuing medical education coursework, and maintains subscriptions to medical journals and online resources.
